BACK IN THE DAY

HARMONICA  -  IT EITHER SUCKS OR BLOWS - DEPENDING ON YOUR POSITION.

It seems we all carry forward in life with the music of our youth. Music is personal. It's whatever moves you. When as a musician you make a connection, move someone,  that's the deal. When I was twelve years old my older brother took me to see James Cotton  at Le Hibou, a small coffee house in Ottawa. Sitting a few feet in front of the stage some serious imprinting must have gone on cause I've been working away at that little pocket instrument for 50 plus years. This lifelong harmonica habit started in the early seventies in Halifax Nova Scotia. (Shout out to friend and mentor Joe Murphy). First time on stage was sitting in with the late great, "Prime Minister of the Blues" Dutchie Mason at a little club called Sullivans. My knees were knocking pretty bad as I recall. Dutchie was his usual gracious self letting a nervous young fella test the waters of public performance. The hook's been in ever since.

LONESOME SINNERS

James Badger Doug Carr Lucie Walker Bruce Morrison Steve Hinton

In 2014 I teamed up with the fabulous Lucie Walker to form the Vancouver based Lonesome Sinners. Vocal harmonies up front and centre. "Rhythm and Twang". The sweet spot between Lucie's Country and Jazz,  and my R&B and Blues, with Bruce Morrison  filling in third part harmonies. Here are a couple of my contributions to the Band.

HINTON HART BAND

In the late nineties I reconnected with old friend Andrew Hart to form the Vancouver based Hinton Hart Band. We worked venues in and around the Lower mainland of B.C. and In 2009 we released "Lets Get Together."  Band members - Andrew Hart guitar, Brent Lawrence on Bass and vocals, Harold Haynes drums and vocals. Extra Special guests - Steve Ranta keys, Jerry Cook tenor sax. Here is the title track and a couple of original tracks  from that CD.
